Student Voices is a project of the Evolve Education Fund to support California high school activists working to make a difference in their schools and communities. Qualified applicants will have a strong commitment to social change and a desire to collaborate with other student activists.

The 2019-20 campaign is to increase awareness of the California public school funding crisis. Although California is the wealthiest state, we rank at the bottom in school funding and have the most overcrowded classrooms in the nation. Fellows will plan and organize activities to help restore California as the nation’s leader in education.

Program Overview:

Each Student Fellow will work with their mentor to customize a schedule of activities. Fellows will have an opportunity to apply a variety of traditional and digital organizing strategies to engage students, educate the public and advocate for public policies that address school funding and other student issues.

We have both paid and unpaid fellowships based on availability and economic need.

Responsibilities Include:

  • A weekly call or online check-in with their mentor

  • Participation in a monthly online meeting with other Student Fellows

  • Engage and inspire other students in their school and community

  • Create social media content featuring student advocates

  • Plan and execute two organizing activities with the help of professional organizers

Qualifications:

  • Passion for social justice

  • Desire to learn and openness to challenges

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Minimum commitment of 5 hours per month

This is a unique opportunity for students to develop their leadership and advocacy skills by working on issues that will make a real difference. Upon successful program completion, Fellows will receive a letter acknowledging program completion with a description of responsibilities and major accomplishments. We will customize a schedule and program that meets each Fellow's area of interest and availability including fulfilling course credit requirements.

Complete the online application and we will follow up to schedule a phone interview.
